Days off school are prescribed by the law regulating public holidays and public holidays in the Republic of Slovenia and are therefore not specifically mentioned in this document.

*Applies to schools with two marking periods; if you have more than one, please set your own marking period end dates. Article 4(4) of the Regulation on the school calendar in secondary schools (hereafter: the Regulation) must be taken into account.

In vocational education, students may already take make-up examinations before they sit the final examination in the spring examination period. Students of upper secondary schools and vocational education who pass the remedial examinations in the spring examination period may take the general or vocational baccalaureate examinations in the autumn examination period.

**Examination period for subject, supplementary and remedial examinations.

The school shall establish a more detailed calendar for the examinations in the annual work plan, in accordance with the Detailed Instructions on the School Calendar, the General Baccalaureate Calendar, the Vocational Baccalaureate Calendar or the Final Examination Calendar.

The deadlines for the preparatory work for the product or service shall be set by the school board for the final examination or the school board for the vocational baccalaureate.

In accordance with the Regulation on the school calendar for upper secondary schools, a school may determine in its annual work plan that two school days in a school year shall be held at a time other than that fixed for the school calendar, where there are justified reasons for doing so. Schools wishing to carry out certain activities on dates other than those set out in this calendar shall seek approval for the change by 5 July 2022 at the latest. 

  • As a general rule, professional staff shall take their annual leave during the autumn, New Year, winter and May holidays, and most of their leave during the summer holidays. During these periods, they may also participate in professional education, further education and training programmes in accordance with the school's annual work plan.

Retake and Additional examinations

For students in vocational and technical secondary schools with a concise curriculum, the dates of the retake, subject and additional examinations shall be set by the school in the Annual Work Plan at the earliest five days after the completion of the requirements of the programme, 30th June 2023.

1. Detailed General Baccalaureate and Vocational Baccalaureate calendars will be published on the National Examination Centre's website once they have been approved by the National General Baccalaureate Board and the National Vocational Baccalaureate Board.

2. We recommend that you attend classes during the General Baccalaureate and Vocational Baccalaureate in the afternoons of the remaining years (subject to availability).

3. The oral examination period normally starts on 12th June. If the school is unable to hold the oral examinations at the scheduled time because of the large number of oral examinations, it may exceptionally organise them on 3rd and 10th June.

  • The dates for the remaining Final Examinations and the date on which candidates will be informed of their success in the Final Examination will be set by the School in the Final Examination Calendar.
